Wrapping Up a Great Experience
The 2024 workcamp at Bäckedals Folkhögskola has come to an end, and we’re happy to share that everyone had a positive experience. Located in the peaceful area of Sveg in Härjedalen, Bäckedals Folkhögskola was an ideal setting for our camp.
Learning Through Hands-On Activities
Bäckedal is known for its courses that combine ancient techniques with modern sustainability practices. During the camp, volunteers took part in various tasks like woodworking, maintaining historical buildings and gardening. These activities offered plenty of learning opportunities and a sense of teamwork and connection with nature.
Evening in the Viking House
One memorable evening was spent in the Viking house, where volunteers fixed the floor with stones and then celebrated with a party.
Cooking together
The group also cooked meals together, sharing dishes from all over the world, such as Turkish and Mexican food. There were volunteers from 7 different countries and everyone cooked food to share with the others.
Midsummer Celebration and Final Trip
The camp included some special events like celebrating Midsummer and a final adventure to Fettjeåfallet. This beautiful waterfall provided a great spot for everyone to relax and enjoy nature on the last day of the camp.
These canoe excursions were a great way for everyone to enjoy the stunning natural surroundings.
Reflecting with Runes
At the end of the camp, each volunteer took a rune and thought about its message in relation to their own lives. This activity highlighted the importance of balance, reminding us that ”it is time to take rest if you are too busy and act if you have too little to do.” The rune wunjo means ”joy” and symbolizes hope, harmony, fellowship and friendship.
Thanks to Our Volunteers
We are very thankful to our volunteers for their hard work and for the beautiful photos they took during the camp. Their contributions and the memories created are greatly appreciated.
As we look back on this year’s camp, we are excited to continue this tradition and welcome new volunteers to Bäckedal. Together, we can keep building a strong connection with nature, history, and each other.
Thank you to everyone who made the 2024 Bäckedal Volunteer Camp a wonderful experience. We hope to see you again next year!
