Ending a fantastic experience
The 2024 work camp at Bäckedal's Folkhögskola has ended and we are happy to announce that everyone had a positive experience. Bäckedal's Folkhögskola, located in the quiet area of Sveg in Härjedalen, was an ideal setting for our camp.

Learning through practical activities
Bäckedal is known for its courses that combine ancient techniques with modern sustainability methods. During the camp, volunteers participated in various tasks such as woodworking, maintenance of historic buildings and gardening. These activities offered many learning opportunities and a sense of teamwork and connection with nature.

Evening in the Viking House
A memorable evening was spent in the Viking house, where volunteers repaired the floor with stones and then celebrated with a party.

Cooking together
The group also cooked together and shared dishes from all over the world, such as Turkish and Mexican food. There were volunteers from seven different countries and everyone cooked food to share with the others.
Midsummer celebration and last trip
The camp included some special events such as celebrating Midsummer and a final adventure to Fettjeåfallet. This beautiful waterfall offered a great place for everyone to relax and enjoy nature on the last day of camp. In addition, the canoe trips were a great way for everyone to enjoy the amazing nature.

Reflection with runes
At the end of the camp, each volunteer took a rune and reflected on its message in relation to their own lives. This activity highlighted the importance of balance and reminded us that “it is time to rest if you are too busy and to act if you have too little to do.” The rune wunjo means ”joy” and symbolises hope, harmony, community and friendship.
Thanks to our volunteers
We are very grateful to our volunteers for their hard work and for the beautiful photos they took during the camp. Their contributions and the memories created are greatly appreciated. Looking back on this year's camp, we are happy to continue this tradition and welcome new volunteers to Bäckedal. Together, we can continue to build a strong connection to nature, history and each other.
Thank you to everyone who made Bäckedal's volunteer camp 2024 a fantastic experience. We hope to see you again next year.
