Working weekend in Möja: October 3–5, 2025
A warm welcome to this fall's work weekend with IAL together with Möja Kulturella Ungdomsrörelse.

Möja is located in the Stockholm archipelago and Möja Kulturella Ungdomsrörelse (MKU) tries in various ways to promote a vibrant archipelago life. There are thoughts that they should host an international volunteer camp in the future, and arranging a working weekend is a way for the association to get to know IAL better. We also have an IAL member, Minna Rinkinen, who lives on Möja and sits on the board of MKU. She will be a little extra responsible for our weekend. For more information about MKU, you can read here.
Work duties
The main tasks during the working weekend will consist of cleaning, clearing and maintenance work in Möja's community center, both outside and inside, for example washing windows, taking inventory and cleaning in the kitchen, vacuuming and mopping floors on both floors, taking inventory of textiles, cleaning blackberries and tidying up bushes in the garden, etc. We will also cook together.
Trip
Möja is located in the Stockholm archipelago. The easiest way to travel there is to take a bus from Slussen to Sollenkroka and from there a boat to Långvik (Möja). From mid-September to the end of April, it is possible to travel the entire way on a season ticket with SL (e.g. a 30-day pass). For those who do not have a season ticket with SL, the boat trip is paid separately from the bus ticket and from/to Sollenkroka, the boat trip one way costs 104 SEK for adults and 64 SEK discounted (for those who are 65 years old, under 20 years old or have a valid student ID with the SL logo). More info at: https://sl.se/.
We suggest the following trips:
- Friday, October 3: From Slussen at 1:45 PM with bus 434 towards Sollenkroka, change to boat in Sollenkroka, arrival in Långvik (Möja) at 4:40 PM or from Slussen at 4:14 PM, arrival in Långvik (Möja) at 7:00 PM.
- Sunday, October 5: From Långvik (Möja) at 3:30 PM, arrival Slussen 6:34 PM (or by boat all the way to Strömkajen, arrival 7:50 PM).
⚠️ Please note that it is approximately a 10-minute walk between Slussen metro station and Slussen bus terminal due to ongoing renovations. The road is well signposted.
There is also a direct boat from Strömkajen in central Stockholm, e.g. on Friday morning 8:50, arrival 12:50 if you want some time on your own at Möja before the working weekend. For example, there is lunch service at Jeppes restaurant in Långvik from 12:00. You can bring a bicycle on the boats for free, subject to space.
Practical info about accommodation etc.
During the working weekend we will sleep on the ground floor of the village hall where there are bunk beds. Bring a sleeping bag or sheets. Blankets and pillows are provided. Also bring work clothes, gardening gloves if you have them, and a towel. In addition to work tasks, the weekend will also provide the opportunity for a wood-fired sauna and swimming in the Baltic Sea. Otherwise, there is only an outdoor shower.
Weekend arrangements
- Those who arrive with the early boat on Friday prepare the food for the evening. After 7:00 PM we eat together and get a presentation from MKU and talk about IAL.
- On Saturday we have breakfast and MKU leads and distributes work in two shifts between 9–12 and 14–17. In between we have lunch together and take a short break. In the evening there will be a sauna for those who wish, an opportunity to socialise, and dinner.
- On Sunday we eat breakfast a little later and have a work shift from 10am to 1pm, then lunch, the opportunity for a walk and/or a swim in the sea and departure by boat at 3:30pm.
Price
The working weekend is free, but we want you to be a member of IAL to participate. Read more at: https://ial.se/medlemskap/. Each participant arranges and pays for their own travel. IAL is responsible for food on Friday evening and MKU is responsible for work management, food on Saturday and Sunday as well as accommodation and sauna.
